Nasir-ol-Molk MosqueThis mosque is situated at the end of the Lotfali Khan-e-Zand Street. Nasirol Molk who was one of the elite of Shiraz, is the founder of this mosque. This mosque is unique for its tile work and architecture. The construction work of mosque began in 1293 AH. and was finally terminated in 1305 AH., by Mohammad Hassan Me'mar and Mohammad Reza Kashi Paz Shirazi. Imam Reza shrineIn 818 Imam Reza was martyred by Al-Ma'mun and was buried beside the grave of Harun. After this event this place was called as Mashhad al-Rida (the place of martyrdom of Ali al-Rida). Shias and sunnis started visiting there for pilgrimage of his grave. By the end of the 9th century a dome was built on the grave and many buildings and Bazaars sprang up around it. During more than a millennium it has been devastated and reconstructed several times. Shah CheraghShah Cheragh (Shah-e-Cheragh) is a Persian complex word and means "King of The Light". It is said that Ayatollah Dastgheib (the great grandfather of the contemporary Ayatollah Dasgheib) used to see a light from a distance. He investigated the site and noticed a graveyard. The grave that emitted light was excavated and a body wearing an armor was discovered. The body was wearing a ring saying "Al-Izzatu Lillah, Ahmad bin Musa" meaning "The Pride belongs to God, Ahmad so of Musa". It was then known that this was a burial site of Ahmad bin Musa, the brother of Imam Reza. Due to the light that lead to this site, the site was called "Shah Cheragh" meaning "The Great Light" or "The King of Lights". JamkaranJamkaran, Iran (on the outskirts of Qom) is the site of the Jamkaran Mosque, a popular pilgrimage site for Shi'ite Muslims. Local belief has it that the Twelfth Imam (Muhammad al-Mahdi) - a messiah figure Shia believe will lead the world to an era of universal peace - once appeared and offered prayers at Jamkaran. This belief has been compared to that of Catholics who believe that the Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal in 1917. Fatima al-Masumeh ShrineThe shrine of Fatema Mæ'sume, sister of Imām ˤAlī ibn-Mūsā Riđā, is located in Qom, the second most sacred city in Iran after Mashhad.Shah Abbas I built the shrine complex in the early 17th century. The shrine has attracted to itself dozens of seminaries and religious schools. |
